Who invented the slinky?

Rendered Image
The slinky was invented in 1943 by Richard James. A Slinky is a toy that can perform quite a lot of tricks, including going down a number of stairs going over itself over and over again. It reforms itself and with the power of gravity. The Slinky was actually made on accident weird right? Richard was working hard to try and make some sort of springs to keep some fragile ship equipment safe while it glided across the sea. He accidentally knocked off some samples he made off a shelf and watched them gracefully walk down the stairs instead of falling. With help from his wife Betty James and together they thought up a plan to turn his mistaken invention into the next big novelty toy. Richard’s wife skimmed and scanned through the WHOLE dictionary to find a appropriate name for the invention and came up with “Slinky”. The couple borrowed 500$ to test the first few Slinky's. The first 400 Slinky's were sold in MINUTES! Soon enough there was an advertisement made for Slinky's with a jingle and the customers loved it.  “What walks down stairs alone or in pairs and makes a slinky sound?” Still at the end of the 20th century and 250 Slinky's later people still buy them today.

Maths- Volume Makayla

WAL about 3D Shapes

Make a container that holds 60 blocks

What different shapes might it be?
What I learnt: That if you multiply 2 x 3 x 4, 2 x 3 is 6 and then 6x4 is
24 so the answer is 24.
My Buddy: Amy

IMG_0158.JPG
For this one we did 4 x 5 x 3
So 3 x 5 = 15
And 15 x 4 = 60 cubes.
IMG_0161.JPG
So for this one we did 2 x 1 x 30
2 x 30 = 60 cubes.

IMG_0160.JPG
In here (well you can’t really see it we have 1 x 1 x 60
So 1 x 60 = 60 cubes.
IMG_0162.JPG
This one is 1 x 6 x 10. So 1 x 10 = 10
10 x 6 is 60 cubes.

P.B.L- Makayla- Pet Enclosure

Makayla
My Creature is
An Arctic fox
Some things I needed to consider about my creature:
They like to sleep in a cozy hole, I need to make them catch their food and holes to hide in. I also need to make sure I that my enclosure is Arctic theme, and water for them to drink.
My enclosure has these special features for my pet:
A little cozy bed/hole a tramp for getting their pouncing levels up, a swing, and some holes in the ground to hide in from predators. I also made a  ½ a seesaw to get them to practise catching their food in their own mouth.
What I am pleased about:
About how my tree turned out and how I added the pastel to make a cool effect on it too. Also how I got the tule from home and made it look like big chunks of snow here and there.
What I have found tricky: Attaching the tule to the base of the trampoline with sellotape.  Also attaching the tree branch to my tree. As well as when I was painting trying not to get paint on the tule.
What I would like to improve:  Stabilizing my tree branch that snapped I while I was explaining what I made. I would also like to improve on adding a bit more detail and stick to one place at a time.

Being a Goldfish 🐠

Dear Owner my name is Goldie, Goldie the Goldfish this is me.

You may think that feeding me isn't the best thing or my size of myself as a pet too but seriously you don’t have to feed me until I get too FAT! Just because im so small doesn't mean you can’t keep me as a pet. Oh and a warning please don’t get me unless you don’t have a Cat because last time I had a home, my bowl slipped off a little table and the Cat nearly well GOT ME FOR THEIR DINNER!  Also it’s not that hard to look after pet Goldfish, all you need is: a Fish bowl or tank (optional), fish food (feed at least 5 times a day) and of course a Goldfish. Okay cleaning the tank well that's a very important thing to remember too, so put some clean water in it  then don’t forget when cleaning a fish tank or bowl remember to TAKE THE FISH OUT OF IT. Put the Goldfish in a big plastic bag or If you have a spare container. Another thing is that people need to remember to keep their fish entertained so for example, maybe buy a plastic pirate ship and some seaweed too. If at some stage your fish or myself gets bored of that stuff that I mentioned before, get it another friend or 2 fish all getta long pretty good. So remember Im waiting for you at the S.P.C.A. And just a reminder: PLEASE DON’T FLUSH ME DOWN THE TOILET. Thank you🐠

Sincerely Goldie 🐠

Sad Dog 🐕

This is me, Im Doge Screenshot 2016-05-24 at 10.22.54 AM.png

Why do people have to be so mean to me and my fellow doggy friends? It makes me feel sad and slightly angry too. I love running around crazily outside while chewing on my favourite multi coloured bone shaped toy but why do you have to take that away from me. Im so sorry for doing my business inside from now on I won’t do it inside. Yes I get REALLY HUNGRY so I snatch stuff off your plate but I promise I won’t do it again. I just can’t help stealing food because I'm ALWAYS starving then when you lock me up I start howling my head off “RRROOOWWW” Then before you know it I'm kicked out of that home and put in the S.P.C.A for at least a year. I also miss cuddling with my owners to. But just a reminder I'm always waiting for you to adopt me:🐕

Sincerely Mr Cuddles 🐾🐾

Project Based Learning- Save the Bush

Project Based Learning Blog Post

Step One
Selecting a context
Lost in the Bush
Save the Bush
Fun in the Bush
Step Two & Three
Create questions and identify one broad question
What was your broad question?
How would the world survive without trees?
Step Four
What did I already know about my question?
They give us oxygen, Pencils, Paper.
Step Five
Design your creation
You should have photographed your plan.  It needed labels.  Insert the photograph of your plan.IMG_0208.JPG
Step Six
Build your creation
IMG_0096.JPG
You should have photographed your plan.  Insert the photograph/s of your creation.
Step Seven
Reflection
How did it go? Okay until I had to reinforce the pins with sellotape underneath it.
What went well? The leafs for the camouflage
What was a challenge? Trying to get the paper springs into place.
Step Eight
Evaluate
What would you change next time? Using newspaper
What would you improve next time? Working with another buddy
Feedback - ask some other children what they thought?
Amy- I like how you made it simple and not too complex but maybe try to focus  more on the topic
Marshall- I think it was good when you put in camouflage.

Obvervational drawing

  Observational Drawing - Shoe Art

Success Criteria:
  • Look at what you are drawing
  • Draw from a real object
  • Don’t trace
  • Use a guideline to make sure your drawing is the right size
  • Keep the outlines light
  • Include detail or leave out detail

What do you like about your observational drawing?
I like how I have added most of the details on my shoe, like the flowers in the right places.

If you were to do it again what would you change?
If I did it again I would make the person on it bigger.
